Paul F. Clark is professor of labor and employment relations. His research interests include labor-management relations in major U.S. industries, with a particular focus on healthcare and law enforcement; union leadership and politics; union member commitment and participation; and new union member orientation and socialization. He has published six books, including “Building More Effective Unions.” His seventh book, “Union Organizing and Collective Bargaining at the Crossroad: Renewal or Continued Decline?”, will be published this summer.

Clark’s research has appeared in the leading scholarly journals in industrial and labor relations and applied psychology. He has also served as the national president of the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA).

Clark has also worked with unions in Pennsylvania and around the country on labor education programs and research projects for over 40 years. He regularly serves as a speaker/workshop instructor on a variety of topics, including building a stronger union culture, increasing union commitment through effective new member orientation programs, what we can learn from labor history, and why unions are still relevant for numerous unions, including the United Steelworkers, the American Federation of Teachers, the Allied Pilots Association, AFSCME, the Vermont Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, and the New Jersey Health Professionals and Allied Employees, among others. He has worked on research projects with the United Mine Workers, United Steelworkers, the National Association of Letter Carriers, AFSCME, and the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. In addition, he works with union-management partnerships programs in several major healthcare systems.
